who is the BBC? 



The BBC stands for the British broadcasting corporation it is has been around for 99 years. The BBC has a revenue of  £5.064 billion.

The BBC is publicly funded and make their money through the public buying a tv licenses which allows access to all media produced by the BBC. The annual cost of a tv license is approximately £159 per household, however a black and white alternative is also available for the lower price of approximately £54 and their is also discounts available if you have a hearing or visual impairment. 


With the BBC  being publicly funded they do not give out cash prizes on the game shows that they produce or if they do any competition over the radio the winner will not receive a cash prize. the BBC can not compete for the same audience as other broadcasters.


 The BBC is meant to appeal to a more niche audience. The BBC have different divisions for example BBC news, BBC sport, BBC radio, BBC weather and the main division is BBC television. BBC television has many different tv channels that provide entertainment. Each channel is different with what they post and who the target audience is, for example BBC 1 is the BBC's main channel that show a lot of the more popular programs for example match of the day and EastEnders, the main target audience for this channel would be 35 and over. BBC 2 is the BBC's second most popular tv channel they feature tv shows such as top gear, the target audience for BBC 2 would be for a wider target audience for example 25-50 as they have very varied programs on BBC 2. BBC 3 has just recently moved back to television after being on the BBC iplayer. the target audience for BBC is around 16-34 they feature shows such as Rupauls drag race uk, Gavin and Stacey, this country and bad education. The BBC also has channels for a younger audience as well for example CBBC and CBeebies. For CBBC the target audience would be people 7-15.

ofcom created the watershed which is 9:00 pm to 5:30 am. This means that any thing that shows inappropriate content must be on tv between these times. 

 

 BBC 3 does not start until 7pm and it ends at 12:30am
